Hello!

I am Joanne and I currently live on Vancouver Island, on the beautiful Rainforest Coast of the Pacific North West, with my husband, three sons and my faithful shadow, Rosie, our rescue dog from Saskatchewan.

I have always had an affinity for animals, wildlife and conservation issues. However, life as a full time mum, and military wife left little spare time to follow my passions.

I have a BA(hons) in Textile and Surface Pattern Design and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in Art Teaching and worked as a Graphic Illustrator at Paignton Zoological and Environmental Park, Devon, UK.

My Family and I moved from Plymouth, England in the summer of 2012 and our adventure began... At first, being in Canada was like being a child again. I didn't recognize the majority of insects or birds around me and had to research the local flora and fauna to be able to teach myself and my curious children about the wonders of our new surroundings. I photographed and sketched the unique wildlife around me from Tree Frogs to Hummingbirds, Turkey Vultures, Owls, Orcas, Humpbacks and Bald Eagles.

Then, one day, my teenage son introduced me to Instagram and a whole new world of information and inspiration hit me like a wall! To be honest the environmental issues that our natural world and wildlife are being constantly exposed to is very overwhelming. Sad story after sad story. Every animal species I could think of, every country around the world, they all had a plea for help or money. Thankfully, I began to realize that there is hope. Ordinary people around the world are doing extraordinary acts, setting up non profit, grass root, community based organizations and wildlife charities, all trying their best to make a difference and turn the tide of wildlife and environmental destruction.

Instagram has exposed me to some very inspirational people, from Wildlife artists like Martin Aveling, in England, daring to produce 'Wildlife Artivism' to show the true story of wildlife issues and environmental entrepreneurs like Naude Dreyer and his family at Ocean Conservation Namibia, saving Cape Fur Seals from horrendous entanglements by ghost nets and industrial scale fishing debris.

My mission to make a real difference to the wildlife in this world, has began...
